30 Years of Austrian Airlines Operations to KBP

Thirty years ago, on April 1, 1991, Austrian Airlines operated its first flight to Ukraine on Vienna – Kyiv route. This route connected two European capitals and provided opportunity for passengers to travel fast and comfortably to the Austrian capital.

On the occasion of the anniversary of operations at Boryspil International Airport Embraer 195 aircraft of Austrian Airlines was solemnly welcomed with water cannon, carrying passengers from Vienna.

The Airport managers and Lufthansa Group General Manager in Ukraine René Koinzack congratulated OS 661 flight crew on the anniversary of the first flight. The Airport staff wished their Lufthansa Group partners future development and safe flights.

I will keep saying that an airline is the first and key customer of the airport. And our 30-year cooperation proves that we are able to grow and develop, support each other and be true partners. I sincerely hope that we have more than a decade of cooperation ahead, noted Georgii Zubko, Deputy Director General for Commerce and Infrastructure Development of Boryspil International Airport.

From the start of summer schedule, Austrian Airlines has been operating flights 4 times per week on Kyiv-Vienna route and is planning to increase the number of flights up to 7 per week from the next month.

Our loyalty and commitment is confirmed, among other things, by 30 years of experience flying to Boryspil International Airport and we are proud of that. The significant increase of flights, more than double since the summer schedule,  even at such a difficult times – is proof of that,  says René Koinzack, General Manager Sales in Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Lufthansa Group.

 This year is landmark for partnership of Boryspil International Airport and Lufthansa Group, because in 2021 two airlines at a time mark 30 years from the first flight to KBP. Austrian Airlines – on April 1 and Lufthansa – on October 28. Currently, Lufthansa offers up to 14 flights per week to Frankfurt and 5 – to Munich.
