Boryspil became a platform for training on inclusiveness

06 December 2021

Within the framework of the project “Boryspil Airport Without Barriers”, which is being implemented under the initiative of the First Lady Olena Zelenska, Boryspil International Airport in partnership with Visa and public organization “Bezbariernist”, 94 employees from various airport departments participate in the training on ethics of communication with different passengers.

Courses will be held from 6 to 9 December. Experienced, highly qualified experts – Oksana Zbitneva, Executive Director of the public organization “Bezbariernist” and Yana Rybchenko, Inclusion & Disability Consultant – will teach employees the basics of accessibility and ethics of communication with different passengers.

Staff training includes familiarization with basic communication skills and non-discriminatory vocabulary. Particular attention is paid to communication with people with hearing disorder – the largest group of people with disabilities in Ukraine.

According to experts, about 5% of the population of our planet have hearing impairments, and as many are at risk of getting them by 2050, in accordance with the WHO.

Boryspil shows by its example that becoming inclusive means not only providing physical accessibility, but also developing a culture of tolerant interaction with completely different passengers. This was stated by the Executive Director of the public organization Oksana Zbitneva, welcoming the participants of the training today.

Boryspil has become a pilot project to develop a state-of-the-art standard for inclusive infrastructure. Its experience in creating an accessible, comfortable environment for everyone is planned to be extended to other Ukrainian airports.
