Boryspil International Airport – main cargo hub of Ukraine
06 December 2021
Today, at the annual Infrastructure Day held by the European Business Association, were resumed changes in the infrastructure sector of Ukraine and the results of work in 2021 were summed up.
Representatives of relevant authorities, heads of state enterprises and business experts attended the event.
Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Director General of Boryspil International Airport, took part in the International Freight Transport and Development of Air Transport, Market of Mail and Express Shipments panel. He spoke about the situation in the cargo segment, the current status and development of airport infrastructure.
He reminded that the cargo terminal of Boryspil Airport was built in the 60s. The construction had a much lower capacity than the market currently needs.
“We are ready to invest in the modernization of the existing infrastructure, but now there is an extremely high need for a new modern cargo terminal. Despite the limited area of the terminal, outdated infrastructure, the Airport is increasing the volume of cargo handling, implementing effective systems of operational management and process automation, “- said Oleksiy Dubrevskyy in his speech.
He also emphasized that the Airport team is constantly working on expanding cooperation with cargo carriers, as evidenced by the Airport cargo traffic volume – 82% of the Ukrainian market air cargo.
“In the context of the pandemic, the cargo traffic has undergone structural changes. In 2021, most cargo and mail will be transported purely on cargo flights – almost twice as much as in 2019. Also, the share of express deliveries has increased significantly since 2019: exports – from 10% in 2019 to 23%, imports – from 27% to 30%. For us, the new cargo terminal is a key priority. This year we are starting this project. We are already working on the feasibility study for the construction of the terminal, where the usable area will be 15-20 thousand m2. We have involved international experts who help us process the initial data and approach the planning process pragmatically. Next year we plan to implement this project,” – said Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Director General of Boryspil International Airport.
