Boryspil International Airport took part in a conference on the prospects of opening Ukrainian airspace under martial law

In Warsaw, the Ministry of Communities and Territorial Development of Ukraine, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, the State Aviation Service, UkSATSE, the Air Force Command, and heads of international airports, presented a roadmap for opening Ukraine’s airspace under martial law.

The event brought together about a hundred aviation industry representatives, including relevant regulators from the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States., the management of Ukrainian and foreign airlines that used to fly in Ukraine, insurance and leasing companies, and aircraft manufacturers.

“During the war, our strategic objective is to preserve the aviation infrastructure and qualified personnel so that we can resume civilian flights as quickly as possible when the time comes. This is a very complicated issue regarding security and interaction with all parties involved. That is why we support platforms where we work with foreign industry regulators, airlines, insurance companies, airports, and the military to develop a joint plan. This is the first expert discussion that we expect will help us move forward in creating the conditions for opening the airspace,” said Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Restorationa and Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.At the beginning of the event, Mary Elizabeth Madden, Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in its efforts to restore civil aviation, when conditions allow, and the readiness of the United States to provide expert and technical assistance.

During the conference, Deputy Minister Sergiy Derkach presented a step-by-step plan and needs for partial reopening of the airspace. The aviation risk assessment was prepared by the State Aviation Service of Ukraine and presented by its Deputy Chairman, Serhiy Korshuk. The conference featured a speech by CEO of the Boryspil International Airport, Oleksiy Dubrevskyy . According to him, the readiness of the airport to resume flights is a convincing result of the efforts of employees over a long period of time to preserve and maintain infrastructure and high-tech equipment. “The resumption of air traffic in Ukraine will be a positive signal for international business, contributing to the attraction of new investments,” he said.Oleh Zakharchuk, Deputy Commander of the Center Air Command for Aviation and Chief of aviation, presented mechanisms for coordinating civil and military Aviation.

The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency, AirBaltic, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, SkyUp Airlines, Skyline Express, SprintAir, Supernova Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Wizz Air, AerCap, Boeing, Marsh McLennan, Deloitte Ukraine and others also joined the expert discussion.
