An important event is happening in Brussels: Ukrainian airports meet European institutions

14 September 2023

On September 14, 2023, in Brussels representatives of the leading Ukrainian airports and European institutions as follows: DG MOVE (Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport), EUROCONTROL, EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency), EBRD and EIB, are taking part in an important event for the aviation industry of Ukraine which was organized by the International Airport Council Airports Council International (ACI Europe).

This event is a follow-up to a great team work on the maintaining of airport operational readiness and air reopening in Ukraine, joined by representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, UkSATSE, the State Aviation Service of Ukraine, airport CEOs of Boryspil, Kyiv-Zhulyany, Lviv, Odessa, Zaporozhye, Kharkiv as well as international partners.

The meeting in Brussels with European officers of financial institutions, is aimed at considering and solving issues for reconstruction of the airport infrastructure destroyed as a result of hostilities, as well as determining further steps in the long-term reconstruction of Ukrainian airports.

“It is an important meeting where all stakeholders involved in the renewal of Ukrainian aviation are brought together, thanks to the Airports Council International (ACI Europe) and its general director Olivier Yankovec. The rapid recovery of the Ukraine’s aviation industry appears on the agenda not only for Ukrainian passengers, airports and airlines, but also comes to the fore for international partners who are interested in comprehensive cooperation on this matter. It is difficult to exaggerate the role of airports for the national economy. We have to find a solution to ensure the mobility of the population, the accessibility of our country and the exports support. Operating Ukrainian airports provide more than 200 thousand jobs and generate 2.6 billion euros of GDP. And after the end of the war, the role of aviation will become even more significant for the return of refugees home and the restoration of the country “, noted Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, the General Director of the International Airport Boryspil.

Boryspil International Airport has taken fundamental steps to quickly implement the plan to resume air flights. The hard work of the airport staff during the lasting wartime to maintain the airport infrastructure, continuous maintenance of staff skills as well as interaction with international financial organizations and partners in the aviation industry resulted in more specific proposals provided by the European aviation sector. Thus, airport officers met with air carriers – the airport’s main partners on the sidelines of the Routes Europe forum on air route development in the city of Lodz, Poland. Most airlines have confirmed their interest in our market and their readiness to return to Boryspil with flights as soon as it is possible from the point of view of flight safety.

The discussion in Brussels is about identifying ways to address the challenges and needs that Ukrainian aviation industry is currently , urgent and long-term plans for the recovery of activities, issues of financing and investments for operations reopening.
