The preparatory stage of comprehensive modernization in cooperation with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has launched at Boryspil International Airport

09 February 2026

From January 26 to February 6, 2026, a mission of KOICA project management consultants worked at Boryspil International Airport. This visit was an important step in preparing for the implementation of the comprehensive modernization project of the airport, aimed at increasing the level of flight safety, operational sustainability and efficient passenger servicing meeting international standards.

The main goal of the two-week mission was to complete the preparation of the key design and technical documents necessary to proceed to the next step, that is a competitive selection of solutions and suppliers. As part of the work, the parties agreed on a road map for project implementation, conducted a preliminary market assessment, shaped technical requirements for IT and operating systems, and also worked out issues of procurement, supply of equipment, its service support and further operation in Ukraine.

The project covers the modernization of the airport’s key operating and IT systems, in particular the implementation of system solutions for passenger self-service (Common Use Self Service, Self Bag Drop), as well as the development of the digital infrastructure necessary for the safe, secure, and scalable operation of the airport in the future.

During the mission work, special attention was paid to the adaptation of international technical solutions to the realities of the Ukrainian market, i.e. public procurement procedures, supply logistics, availability of service competencies and long-term support of systems.

«Even in conditions of closed airspace, we comprehensively prepare the country’s main aviation hub for the resumption of flights and operation according to modern international standards. This project is not only a set of technologies, but a symbol of the institutional readiness, sustainability and integration of Ukraine into the global aviation ecosystem after the war», — was noted by Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, CEO of Boryspil International Airport.

The prerequisite for cooperation was a tripartite agreement between Boryspil International Airport SE, the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, and KOICA, which defines the scope and directions of implementation of joint projects aimed at improving safety standards and the quality of passenger servicing at the country’s largest airport.

The next stage in 2026 will be finalizing technical documentation and the launch of procurement procedures for the practical implementation of the project.
