The Ukrainian aviation industry remains on the radar of the global aviation community: the main summary of The ACI EUROPE / WORLD Annual General Assembly

On June 26-28, 2023, in Barcelona, ​​Spain, the ACI EUROPE / WORLD Annual General Assembly, (International Council of Airports) is taking place – it is the world’s largest aviation platform, which unites the leaders of the aviation industry, influential aviation organizations e.g. IATA, ICAO, EUROCONTROL, European Commission, aviation innovators and experts, airport CEOs from all ACI regions.

Olivier Yankovec, Director General of ACI Europe, personally asked Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, CEO of Boryspil International Airport, to take part in the event and to address the participants of the assembly. His speech “Ukrainian airports – one year of uninterrupted work in conditions of uncertainty and war” is a unique opportunity to convey the state of the Ukrainian airport infrastructure which was the most affected by the military attack of Russian aggressors, to the top-ranking international aviation audience and to enlist the support of international community for recovery and reconstruction of aviation industry in Ukraine after the victory.

‘The war has changed the strategy of the airport from development to survival. But the war did not change the airport’s mission – to become a high-tech European hub that promotes the investment attractiveness of Ukraine,’ O.Dubrevskyy stressed out in his speech. In the circumstances of war and complete uncertainty, it is important for us to support the crucial airport infrastructure and our high-skilled personnel, which is the key factor for the postwar resurgence of air traffic,” Director General of BIA said.

Oleksiy Dubrevskyy also drew the attention of the international transport community to the problems of the Ukrainian aviation industry, for which the war and the closure of the sky caused the worst crisis – the destruction of infrastructure, the loss of qualified and experienced personnel, economic losses caused by changes in the market situation.

“There are a large number of issues that need to be resolved right now for the recovery of the Ukrainian aviation industry,” Oleksiy Dubrevskyy believes. ‘Connection and communication with the world aviation community, with international aviation organizations IATA, ICAO, EUROCONTROL, ACI Europe, EASA, ECAC, European Commission are of the greates importance to provide gradual reconstruction and recovery of the industry, recovery of the air transportation market. Together, we are considering options to save the Ukrainian aviation industry, which is now not only under the threat of missile attacks, but the war puts its future at risk.”

On the sidelines of the assembly, Director General of Boryspil airport conducted held a series of meetings and negotiations with strategic partners discussing a balanced policy of support from international aviation organizations, foundations and European airports, who highly appreciated the efforts of Ukrainian airport employees to preserve the airport infrastructure in wartime conditions.

“The process of post-war recovery of the Ukrainian aviation market is impossible without the involvement of international aid and financial resources of the donor community to meet the needs of the affected airport infrastructure, as well as maintenance of the personnel certification, and the necessary technical equipment for successful and safe operation of the airport in the post-war period,” Dubrevskyy emphasized.

“We presented to our partners the strategy of the future potential of the aviation market of Ukraine and promising drivers of growth, the possibility of full integration of the Ukrainian aviation sector into the European network. I am sure that the aviation industry of Ukraine remains on the agenda of the world aviation community,” added Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Director General of Boryspil International Airport.

The General Assembly of ACI EUROPE|АСИ WORLD is a large-scale platform for discussing the latest trends in the development of the industry and plans for its future development. For the Ukrainian aviation industry, it is necessary to remain in the focus of modern trends and keep up with world standards after the opening of the airspace, to keep up with the times.
Moreover, in Barcelona, ​​agreements were also made regarding a joint meeting in Brussels between the heads of Ukrainian airports, Ukraerorukh, the State Aviation Service of Ukraine and the European organizations EASA, Eurocontrol and DG NEAR under the auspices of ACI EUROPE (International Council of Airports). The main goal of the meeting is to unite efforts in the synergy of the future restoration of Ukrainian civil aviation.
